After reading a lot of these, there is no magic formula。 Self-Discipline, Initiative, Commitment, etc。。。Maxwell does a good job putting together the list and good examples。 Never hurts to get a reminder (kick in the butt) every once in a while to remind/reset on what you need to be doing。

I’ve read parts of this book before but this is the first time I’ve read the entire book cover to cover。 I’ve recently been baffled by what makes people follow a “leader” who isn’t truthful with them。 Maxwell’s 21 desirable leadership qualities will quickly have you comparing bosses or leaders you’ve known, along with your own self check of areas in need of improvement。 This book was originally published in 1999 yet it is still timely in the 21 qualities of good, strong leaders it discusses。

For such a small book, I'm surprised how much I enjoyed and appreciated this book。21 small lessons - I read one a day。 That was perfect。 You wouldn't want to read it any faster - you want time for the lessons to steep in your thought process。Each lesson was perfect - and made sense。 I loved the lesson that suggested you visualize each person having a #10 on their head - and that is the filter that you view that person through - rather than looking at them through a negative filter, view them thr For such a small book, I'm surprised how much I enjoyed and appreciated this book。21 small lessons - I read one a day。 That was perfect。 You wouldn't want to read it any faster - you want time for the lessons to steep in your thought process。Each lesson was perfect - and made sense。 I loved the lesson that suggested you visualize each person having a #10 on their head - and that is the filter that you view that person through - rather than looking at them through a negative filter, view them through a positive filter。 It's a small book - but very important reminders。 And each chapter has takeaway lessons that may be appropriate for the reader。 。。。more

Short read but has lot of valuable points on becoming a better leader。 Love the action plan present in each chapter to practice the indispensable qualities。

Thoughtful and concise, though some of the examples feel a bit dated。 Still, worth the read。

I liked this book so much I bought the ‘real’, much bigger and more in-depth book。 I’d like to think I’ve been a good ‘leader’ over the years; but as I read through the simple stories of each of the 21 qualities, I realized that I still have a very long way to go—but I’m getting there。 Maybe by the time I die。。。

I had to read this book for school and I did think the qualities discussed are positive and in general should be developed by everybody if they want to have good character or be a good leader。 However, there was an overarching message that I disagreed with on a fundamental level—the whole grind doesn’t stop/pull yourself up by your bootstraps/withhold rewards from yourself。 I do not know if that makes me an indulgent person or just really cool 😎 and fun。 I know that the people who write these bo I had to read this book for school and I did think the qualities discussed are positive and in general should be developed by everybody if they want to have good character or be a good leader。 However, there was an overarching message that I disagreed with on a fundamental level—the whole grind doesn’t stop/pull yourself up by your bootstraps/withhold rewards from yourself。 I do not know if that makes me an indulgent person or just really cool 😎 and fun。 I know that the people who write these books are beloved by Christian conservatives, because I remember volunteering with a Christian pastor who begged me to read John Maxwell’s books。 I also know this because of how many times Margaret Thatcher, Ronald Reagan, and Winston Churchill were used as examples。 For the quality of generosity, Maxwell told the story of a missionary that was so heinous to me, I audibly gasped。 He also praised Wal-mart, Papa John’s, and Holiday Inns。 I was like sir, you stand with the enemy of the people and you’re telling me to listen to my followers to be a good leader? But I think there is value in these books because I realized how jaded I am and it made me think that maybe leftists would be more popular if despite it all, they also maintained a good attitude about life and people。 Hard to do, hard to do。 。。。more

Great read! Maxwell lays out qualities that we all know are important。。。 but with a brilliantly simplistic and practical style, he shares little-known stories about renowned leaders who have personified the characteristics, then imparts how we can “bring it home” by applying the qualities to our everyday lives and holding ourselves accountable。 Will be interesting to re-read later on in my career。

facebook。 。。。more
